The Best Time of Year

You should see what it’s like right now in this clubhouse. There is unbelievable energy. Everyone’s up. We have all the young guys who were called up. We have Randy Johnson back. And we took two games from the Rockies and are ready, believe me, for the third. And then the Dodgers.

Here’s an example of the mood this team is in – at least this is how it was a few hours before Wednesday’s game.

While we were stretching before BP, and Bochy was walking out of the dugout after his daily meeting with the reporters, the music that’s always blaring through the loudspeakers suddenly went silent. We knew what was coming, but Bochy didn’t. Up on the big screen in center field. There was a video montage of Bochy’s career, at least as it was through his time at the Padres. It showed him as a player then as a young manager. The showing was arranged by a player who shall remain nameless.

“Somebody turn that off,” Bochy said, turning his back to the screen. “Who did this?”

All of us, of course, watched every moment then clapped when it was over.

I guess you could say we were pretty loose.

Every race to the postseason has its own rhythm. You can’t really compare my time with the Angels to the Giants now. You have different players, different personalities. We have been so up and down. I’m sure there are people who wrote us off last week and jumped back on the bandwagon after beating the Rockies in the first two games of this series. We knew we had games left – crucial games left – that could turn this around.

More tomorrow.

Great job today Bengie. I just wish other vets would help this team instead of hurt it. Even though we lost today I still believe and will watch this season till the last game.

Hey Bengie,

Tough loss tonight. 3 1/2 back looks like we have no shot. But lemme tell you, as a giants fan, this has been the most rewarding season I’ve had in awhile. I would like to A) Thank you for being so positive and being such a clutch offensive force this season– this has been the most fun I’ve had watching el Gigantes in a long time. B) Please keep the positivity in the clubhouse– if we can pull off some victories, there is no doubt in my mind we can catch the mercurial rockies. Trust me when I say, we are in this and we are in this until the last out is made. Baseball is a weird game. Patience at the plate will be rewarded. Go Giants and I wish you and the team all the luck down the stretch; you’ve already made every giants fan proud in what should have been a rebuilding year. You guys have the ability to take this one home. Do it for us!

Thank you and Best of luck,
Ash

Oye Bengie,
Keep the focus brutha!! You’re definitely one of the leaders in the clubhouse. Keep the boys riled up and motivated. You guys can pull this out but it has to be a team effort. Remind them of that basic principal. Even the best forget when they feel their backs are against the wall. Also, “It ain’t over till the last strike”. I’ve been a fan since ’82 and have NEVER given up on the G men and I expect you guys not to give up. One more thing, te manda saludos Raul (el hermano de Jose Robles) trabajo con el. Anyways, get some much needed rest on your day off and go BEAT LA!!!!

Best wishes and luck,

Steve Andrade and family.

Dear Bengie,
Thank you for writing so much lately– even in the midst of this very exciting wildcard chase! I love your honesty, insight, and your beautiful spirit! Tonight’s loss was a heartbreaker, but I know that there’s too many games left to throw in the towel just yet, like so many people are doing. Anything can happen, & this team has great spirit, as was demonstrated in the 9th inning tonight. I’m going to be there for you guys every step of the way, because this has been one heck of an exciting season– & I know I’m not the only one who feels that way! Enjoy the ride, Bengie…and take care of those fingers! P.S. How great to see Randy Johnson come out & start warming up in the bullpen! I sure hope we see him pitch soon! That would be so cool!
All my best,
Anita

It is the best time of the year! Good luck!

We love you Bengie,

Keep up the good work on the field and the Black and Orange Fans will keep it rolling off the field. You guys are playing some great baseball and are giving the fans in SF everything.

Keep up the positive vibes and have some fun playing baseball!

WE’RE IN THIS!

Nick

hey Bengie, We all love you guys..But we’re tired of waiting for next year!!!!!! please tell the guys we love them all, anyway!

It was a good game today. It was great to see Matt back to his old self. Also it was so good to see Matt get the Willy Mack award and to see you on the field as well. You guys have taken me on such a roller coaster ride this season and I am so proud of all of you. I love my Giants, always have and always will. I know that the playoffs are out of reach at this time but it was and still is a great season. Finish up the season with a bang and know that I will be there to root for you guys next season. Hopefully your injury isn’t that bad, never did hear what really happened. Take good care.
Go Giants!!!!!

Congratulations Bengie on your 20th HR. I hope you’ll be back next season for the Giants, but if by chance you’re not… thank you for all the great memories you have left me with. I wish you much happiness in your future. I will be a Bengie fan no matter where you go!! Thank you for your huge heart…

Hugs,
Sue
